Arcade Fire’s latest album was released August 3rd, perhaps this is late for a review but I just barely listened to it. Come to think of it, I became aware of it’s release when my friend stuffed a copy of it in my hand shortly before my other-wordly departure. It’s pretty good. I considered Arcade Fire my favorite band for a bit, that was just before TV on the Radio ransacked my life and mind, and I feel as though AF has been consistently good.
I must say though, I was compelled to describe this album as a little more Urban Outfitters than the last, but perhaps that has always been the case and as I move away from that it becomes a bit more easy to see. Either way, my struggle to avoid that aesthetic is like my struggle against my nature, futile yet significant.
In other news…
Maximum Balloon, which is a side project of Dave Sitek of TV on the Radio, will be released September 21st. I recently discovered my #1 band is on hiatus, and though the initial surprise was there, I was at the same time understanding, like a good relationship partner… To be honest, after Dear Science, though it was good an all, I felt like their original mood was being lost, so this may be for the better.
Kyp Mallone released his solo album last September and aside from the track Give Blood, I was hardly compelled. But in all fairness I kind of expected what I got, and I’m sure Kyp did not disappoint those who have a similar music craving to his own, but I don’t think I am one of them… I believe Dave Sitek is a little more up my alley as an independent musician and the only one that would probably have me more excited is Tunde Adebimpe himself, so until then, Maximum Balloon it is!
